The Chilean-British Chamber of Commerce, through its Sustainability Committee, held the event “Environmental Assessment Today: Opportunities, Challenges, and Regulation,” which brought together representatives from the public and private sectors to address the current state of environmental assessment in Chile and the main regulatory, technical, and strategic challenges associated with project and investment development.

The event took place at Deloitte’s offices and featured a presentation by Arturo Farías Alcaíno, Regional Director of the Environmental Assessment Service (SEA), who focused on the current and future challenges of the Environmental Impact Assessment System, regulatory modernization processes, and opportunities to move toward more sustainable, efficient, and collaborative development.

In addition, Ernesto Escobar, Risk Director at Deloitte, addressed the main trends in risk and regulatory compliance, analyzing how these factors are impacting the development of strategic projects and investment decision-making in the country.

The conversation was moderated by Laura Landeta, President of the Sustainability Committee of BritCham Chile, creating a space for analysis and exchange on sustainability, territorial development, legal certainty, and institutional strengthening in environmental matters.

The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of moving towards more efficient and modern regulatory processes, capable of reconciling economic development with the environmental and social challenges facing the country.
