BritCham Chile addresses progress and opportunities in carbon markets together with the Ministry of the Environment

BritCham Chile, through its Sustainability Committee, held a session last Thursday focused on promoting emissions mitigation projects, with the participation of Jorge Gómez, Senior Advisor on Carbon Markets at the Ministry of the Environment. The session was moderated by Laura Landeta, president of BritCham’s Sustainability Committee, who led the dialogue between the speaker and the attendees.

During the presentation, the context of the triple environmental crisis facing Chile and the world was addressed, along with the country’s climate goals, highlighting the need to promote greenhouse gas reduction projects with environmental and social co-benefits. In this context, progress in implementing carbon pricing instruments was emphasized, as these instruments enable the creation of markets and the mobilization of investment, in a scenario where approximately one-third of global emissions are already subject to these mechanisms.

Waste Valorisation in Chile: From Environmental Liability to Strategic Investment Opportunity

BritCham Chile convenes public–private leaders to unlock circular economy investment and industrial transformation

Santiago, 21 January 2026 — Chile stands at a decisive inflection point in its transition towards a circular economy. While regulatory frameworks such as the Extended Producer Responsibility Law (REP) have laid essential foundations, the country now faces a more complex — and more strategic — challenge: transforming waste from an operational cost into a driver of productivity, innovation and long-term investment.

This was the central conclusion of the high-level conversation “Waste Valorisation in Chile: From Environmental Liability to Strategic Asset”, organised by the Technology, Innovation and Sciences Committee and the Sustainability Committee of the British–Chilean Chamber of Commerce (BritCham Chile) and held at BritCham’s offices in Santiago.
